Life Currently Vol. 4

5:46 PM
As of right now, I'm killing time air-drying my hair, which led me to the conclusion that I haven't had any time to update my blog about life, currently.
It's been more than two months since school started and I feel like I'm floating in a sea of dead bodies. It's just pure gore all around, but I hope to find solace in the coming term break. I am already planning what to do and where to go, and I don't plan on living the break without doing anything interesting.

READING / blog posts from my favorite bloggers, and also, planning on reading a few short Roald Dahl stories
WRITING / my current weekly schedule. I need to prioritize more time for reading up on my lectures!
LISTENING / to nothing, but my earpods are on my ears. I should play some of The XX. *update: I'm listening to Justin Bieber's new song, "What Do You Mean?" which kinda has a Kygo vibe and I am not impressed.
THINKING / if my hair's going to turn light brown or not when I dye it later.
SMELLING / conditioner. I just finished washing my hair!
WISHING / that I could turn back time and buy Bicol Express for dinner. They ran out at the last minute.
HOPING / to get back to working out during the weekends. I miss doing my Blogilates calendar. It's been ages. AGES.
WEARING / jersey shorts from my college sports week thing, back when I was a freshman.
LOVING / the long weekend
WANTING / more time so I could actually read novels this "weekend"
NEEDING / a hike in Mt. Batur in Indonesia.
FEELING / optimistic, which is such an upgrade, because I've been down lately.
CLICKING / on YouTube videos that can teach me how to properly "neutralize" my current hair color (it's a bright orange, by the way. I am not at all in love with it.

I hope you guys have a great long weekend, and amidst everything that's happening around you, always remember: you control everything that is within you, so don't bloody worry about tomorrow. Live for today!

A Taste of New York, Right In Our Neighborhood

10:04 PM
It's been a month since I've seen this apartment near our house being renovated. I figured it was because the new owners wanted to stay there for a long time and make it their own. The moment I saw them painting the apartment (the WHOLE apartment) black, I knew that it was a family I'd like to get to know. Their taste is imminently high.
One night, I was en route home, and I saw a lot of cars parked near the house, and the same huge number of people inside the black apartment. I dismissed it and thought it was a house-warming party. It was only a few days later when I drove back there and found the sign hanging from the apartment.
"The Black Apartment"
Chicken - Burgers - Fries
I was taken aback. I immediately googled them and looked for reviews. Since they were only merely a week old, there weren't many reviews-but word of mouth traveled fast with an establishment such as theirs. I grabbed the opportunity to finally visit their restaurant when the Governor cancelled classes today. I was free as a bird to spend quality time with my sister and my daughter to eat at The Black Apartment. Finally!

The space was modest, but the beauty in architecture and design made up for the small space it had. It was enough to make me go back without a second thought. The pricing was fair, for the quality was really nice.
Now, on to my review.
We got two types of burgers while there, the Tenant (a really nice, simple, but packed cheeseburger), and the Hole In The Wall, a burger that had doughnuts in place of burger buns. We also got a side order of fries, but ended up getting two because the owners were nice enough to extend the serving for my burger's side dish.

PROS:

  • Seriously delicious burgers. I swear, they could really go up against the burgers from Manila. I found out that they prepare their burgers in store and really take the time to cook them to perfection

  • The ambiance. They give off this vibe that I'm not in Cavite anymore, that I'm in a whole different town, or even country. They have truly nice taste in decor. And who wouldn't love this cute mural?
  • The hospitality. I have never been so welcomed in my whole experience of restaurants combined. They showed me that even simple things like asking if the burgers are good truly make me feel important and that my feedback matters to them.

CONS:
  • The fries. It's not perfect, but it's not bad either way. My kid loved it. Me? Not so much. I felt it was too greasy, but I definitely think it'll improve over time.
  • The waiting time. Typically, in restaurants, you'd wait a good fifteen minutes for your order to pull through, but with them, maybe due to the low number of staff (it's only their first week so they get a free pass from me), we had to wait a solid thirty minutes before our orders were given to us. It somehow passed by quickly, because the food was worth the wait.
Overall, I give it an 8/10. It's almost ace, but with a few tweaks, it'll be a perfect 10. I look forward to going back and spending more quality time in the Black Apartment.

What I learned from my... are a series of posts centered around the life lessons I learned from various people in my life. It may be my mom, a college friend, a stranger, or someone as trivial as *drumroll* my first love. So to honor one of the inevitable firsts in one's life, here is my very first WILFM post, dedicated to my first love.

5 Things To Remember When You're Getting Overwhelmed

8:53 PM
photo from flickr.com, with proper permission from author
It's that time of the week again (or should I say day), and you're up in your own pile of due dates, tasks not even started with, lessons half-studied, topic outlines unread, and a bunch of e-mails requiring you to do about 10 things all at once. It's not supposed to get to you, but suddenly, all at once, it does. You try picking yourself up from the stresses of your mundane life, from all the deadlines, the requirements, the inevitable exams, practical tests, quizzes, and whatnots, but, as it seems, every time you try to pick yourself up, there comes another e-mail. Another task. Another assignment. Another lecture to prepare for. Another damn requirement.

The world needs too much from you, and you just can't give all of that away, because, as hard as it is to admit: you are not a superhero. You do not have 40 hours in a day. You are not capable of doing 10 things all at once, even if you wanted to. Here are some things you need to remember once you get that feeling of being so overwhelmed you wish you could just drown in your own tears.

The Rainy Day Q&A

8:51 PM

It's been a while since I've felt this cold, and since today was the official first class suspension I got (all hail Gov. Pogi!), I'm going to do a Rainy Day Q&A!

1. What's so special about rainy days?
I think what makes rainy days seem so special is the fact that the whole place is clouded with this unearthly warmth and coldness, fighting for attention, and in the end, they meld into each other and create a blissful memory full of drops and cool breeze. I love rainy days so much that I've even dedicated a whole blog post about it, apparently.

2. Do you have a favorite drink and/or food for rainy days?
I am in love with noodles and hot soup during rainy days. If I can, I would squeeze in a hot matcha latte from a good cafe.

 3. Do you have a certain song/songs that you like to play over and over again during this rainy season?
A friend of mine recommended a song by Portugal. The Man, and it's called "Purple, Yellow, Red and Blue". It's been on repeat since classes got suspended, which was this morning.

 4. Imagine being in your room on a rainy day. What do you like to do most?
I don't have to imagine about that. I am currently watching soaps, neglecting homework, eating my soup, and writing a blog post. The day could not have gone any better.
5. What clothes you like to wear most during rainy days (aside from rain jackets)?
Knit sweaters are a must for the cold weather. I have a thrifted one that I adore so much, I always wear it to school whenever I can. It's just one of those things, really. You love something for the feelings it gives you continually.

6. What makeup item do you use the most when it's rainy season since the air does get cooler?
I try using more moisturizing products because my skin does tend to get a bit drier around the cheeks (basically everywhere apart from my T Zone). I always end up using Dove Beauty Cream on my face just for the extra oomph of hydration during the cold evenings. I also like using lip tints so my mornings are less hassling.

7. What were you supposed to do today if it wasn't a rainy day?
I would've been in class, contemplating on whether or not I still want to go on with my life. Yes, school does that to me right now.

8. What movies do you usually watch during rainy days?
Mostly sappy love comedies would be recommended, but I love me my action movies. Anything from The Equalizer to the Taken series, or even James Bond Films (Daniel Craig is my ultimate Bond next to Pierce Brosnan). Rainy days shouldn't always make you feel so sappy and solemn.

9. Would you rather be alone or with company during rainy days?
If it were me, I would rather spend half the day bonding with my friends, talking life over hot chocolate, then in the middle of the afternoon, spend some time alone, reading books, writing on my journal, listening to some good tunes, blog a bit, then go for a serious to-watch film.

10. Finally, what memories do you have when it's raining? Share one of your favorite memory.
I think it rained one time during one of my friend's parties, and we were just dancing in the rain, drenched from head to toe, and I wouldn't forget that, ever.

That's all for now folks! I hope you guys have a good day, and I really have to start studying the Nervous System now.
Love,
V
